Shrink Wrap Film Buyers Guide

Centerfolded shrink film: Shrink wrap film that is folded in half and wound up on a roll. We carry the widest selection of Centerfold Shrink Wrap Film.

Gauge: The standard unit of measurement for shrink film thickness.
Example: Shrink Wrap that is 100 gauge thick equals 0.001 inch or 1mil. The higher the numeric value of the gauge, the thicker the film. Thicker shrink wrap film offers more puncture and impact resistance while thinner gauge shrinkfilm provides faster shrink wrap cycles and lower shrink force.

PVC Shrink Wrap:
PVC or Poly-Vinyl Cloride is one of the most popular types of shrinkfilm. This type of film shrinks at a low temperature and works great with heat guns. It has a 'crinkly' or brittle texture. While many PVC shinkfilm are FDA approved for direct food contact, they are not popular with food applications because they produce a slightly pungent odor. Colored PVC shink wrap is also available.

Polyolefin Shrink Wrap:
This type of shrink wrap film is composed of a combination of Poylethylene and Polypropylene. It is clearer than PVC shrinkfilm and has a very smooth texture. Some grades of Polyolefin exhibit a 'high slip' factor meaning that they have a very smooth surface and have a low coefficient of friction. Polyolefin film requires a higher temperature to shrink than PVC shrink wrap film and works best with most one step shrink wrap machines, L-bar sealers and fully automatic shrink wrappers. Since this type of film does not give off a pungent order when sealing, it is quite popular for shrink wrapping food and retail products. Thus, most Polyolefin we carry are also rated as food grade shrink wrap for direct food contact.

Low-Temp Polyolefin:
Formulated with a lower shrink temperature than most standard polyolefin shrink film, thus allowing easier sealing and shrinking with low end shrink wrap equipment. Works great with odd shapded packages and provides lower shrink force allowing for reduced product distortion. Also recommended for shrink wrapping light, unsupported packages.

Anti-Fog Polyolefin:
This type of polyolefin shrink wrap is designed for applications involving shrink wrapping products in ambient temperature environment . It has a unique characteristic that prevents fog buildup and reduces condensation when foods such as fresh vegetables and meats are shrink wrapped. Improves the retail presentation of the products being shrink wrapped and allows for quicker transit to merchandising because there is no wait for fog/moisture to clear. Like standard polyolefin shrink wrap, there is also no pungent odor. FDA approved for direct food contact.

Pre-Perforated Polyolefin:
This type of shrink wrap is manufactured with tiny perforations already made into its surface. Since the perforations are already made at the factory, the end use does not need additional equipment or tools to perforate the shrink film. This feature benefits the end user by providing better ventilation during the shrink cycle thus reducing shrinkwrap time. Also, since no additional equipment or tools is needed perforate the shrink film. As a result, fewer parts are worn out.

PVE:
A soft FDA compliant PVC alternative, Traco SuperShrink SSPVE creates a strong professional package by gently shrinking up to 80 percent around products with high profiles or dramatic curves. Choose SSPVE to eliminate warm-weather blocking problems during shipping or storage. SSPVE also removes dog ears and crows feet without bending or crushing flexible products. SSPVE runs well on portable, semi-automatic and automatic equipment.

Shrink Bags:
Shrink bags are precut bags made from heat shrinkable film. Currently PVC shrinkwrap film is the most common type of shrinkbag material. Shrink bags are a convenient solution for low volume shrink wrap applications involving manual shrink wrap tools such as heatguns and manual hand sealers.

Shrink Wrap: A plastic film, usually polyethylene, polypropylene, polyolefin, or polyvinylchloride, that is wrapped loosely about another product or container and then made to shrink tightly about the container or product by the brief application of heat (usually in a heatgun or shrink tunnel).
