Why choose an Acorn Stairlift??

The first thing to remember is that all stair lifts were not created equal! Although there is an ever growing demand for stair lift equipment, it is truly amazing how many out dated products are being installed in peoples homes throughout the USA. This old technology equipment is troublesome the user - why? - because it?s unreliable. Things have moved on since the days of chain drives and trailing cables.Modern stair lifts, like the Acorn Superglide Stair Lift, are state of the art, in terms of design and manufacture, yet are so simple to install and maintain.

What to look out for:
  • If a stair lift is cable hauled, or utilizes a chain or rope - it will be noisy, jarring and oily
  • If a stair lift has a trailing mains cable - it is AC powered, which means it will be quite complex and time consuming to install (in some States you will not be able to install it legally, unless you are an ANSE qualified electrician). It will also be unreliable and has the potential to electrocute
  • If stair lift does not have a swivel seat - it is outdated and potentially hazardous, particularly at the top of the stairway
  • If stair lift does not have rack & pinion drive - it will be noisy and lacking stability
  • If stair lift does not have ?soft start - soft stop? technology - it is outdated and uncomfortable, with jarring starts and stops
  • If stair lift is not DC powered - it will be troublesome, lack smoothness and could be potentially dangerous. It will be immobilized during a power outage
  • If stair lift does not have an overspeed governor - the stair lift is not protected from an uncontrolled descent, if a major drive system failure should occur. In this case, the stair lift could plummet to the foot of the stairway, with terrible consequences.
  • If stair lift does not have built-in diagnostic system - it will be impossible to diagnose a fault without a costly home visit

The Acorn Superglide Stair Lift;
  • Is not cabled hauled - it has positive rack & pinion drive providing a quiet, smooth ride.
  • Has no trailing cable - it is DC powered; quick and simple to install, no danger of electric shock, highly reliable.
  • Has a three position swivel seat for safety and ease of use.
  • Has soft start/stop - no jarring at the top or bottom of your stairs
  • Is DC powered it is smooth and near silent in operation - and will continue to work, in the event of a domestic power failure.
  • Has an overspeed governor (OSG) as standard equipment - Acorn believes that it is irresponsible to supply a stair lift without this vital safety equipment.
  • Has comprehensive self-diagnostic system. The stair lift is equipped with smart technology that recognizes and identifies faults and displays a fault code showing the stair lift status. No other domestic stair lift, available in the USA, has this time and money saving feature.
Easy to Install
  • Factory prepared for installation - each stair lift is built to a customers specifications. We can even deliver the stair lift direct to your address
  • No mains wiring necessary - no need for expensive and disruptive alteration to the domestic mains power supply, or for a certified electrician to hook up main power
  • Maintenance free batteries - power for the lift derived from 2x 12 volt batteries that are charged via an independent battery charger unit
  • Infra red remote controls - no complicated wiring for the lift call stations
  • Full on-line Instructions - our technical support site is second to none!
  • Free installation video provided - further advice is just a phone call away!
Easy to Use
  • Whisper quiet operation - due to the stair lifts DC power supply.
  • Joystick and Infra remote control operation. The lift can be 'sent' or 'called' to wherever it is needed
  • 'Soft start' and 'soft stop' technology - there is no jolting or lurching as the lift starts or finishes its journey.
  • Swivel seat with locking catch - ensure easy mounting and dismounting from the stair lift. The lift will not operate unless the seat is in the correct riding position.
  • Diagnostic digital display - mounted on the stair lift carriage, this shows clearly when the lift is in the normal operating position, and also provide invaluable diagnostic information in the unlikely event of a fault with your stair lift.
  • Folding Seat & Footrest - the stairs remain available for use by others, as the stair lifts seat, arms and footrest fold away when not in use.
Safe to Use
  • Designed to meet BS5776-1996. Additional certification granted by TRL EMC.
  • Pressure sensitive safety surfaces that prevent the lift from colliding with any obstruction on the stairway. These are located around the footrest, and on the top and bottom of the carriage
  • Limit sensors to ensure that the stair lift always stops in the correct position
  • Electronic and mechanical braking systems eliminates the possibility of an uncontrolled descent.
  • Lockable isolation switch
  • 24 Volt DC operation - eliminating any risk of electric shock

A:Absolutely! In fact the Acorn Superglide Stairlift has been designed with self-installation in mind. There is no complex or potentially dangerous mains electricity wiring to contend with - the stair lift simply plugs into your wall outlet, just like any other domestic appliance and the stair lift is attached directly to the stair treads - not the wall, so there is no unsightly damage or alteration to the structure of your home. The Acorn Superglide Stairlift is custom built for your stairway and all of the settings are fixed at our manufacturing plant, you will need only the most basic of tools to complete the installation.

Q:What kind of warranty does Acorn offer?

Q:Are there any hidden costs?

A:None whatsoever. The total price quoted covers all of the equipment, including the fitting kit and a video guide to installation. Express shipping from our factory - to your door, is also included in the price

Q:Once I?ve ordered an Acorn Superglide stair lift, how long will it be before it?s delivered to me?

A:We appreciate that when the need for one of our stair lifts has been realized, people want it fast! We work closely with global carrier UPS, who will deliver your Acorn Superglide within 5 working days of your order. While other companies are sending brochures - you?ll be busy, regaining the freedom of your home, travelling back up and down stairs!

Q:The user of the stair lift has some problems bending their knees - or the stairway is quite narrow. Will the Acorn Superglide fit?

A:Shouldn?t be a problem! We have a option called the Acorn Superglide Perch. It is particularly useful for those with limited knee articulation and for installations where the stairway is unusually narrow. If the staircase is at least 26" (66cms) wide, the Acorn Superglide Perch will do the job.

Q:What is the maximum weight that the Acorn Superglide will cope with?

A:The standard maximum user weight is 290lbs - however, we can supply a heavy duty motor as an extra cost option that is suitable for users weighing a maximum of 350lbs.

Q:The stairway has a turn in it. Can I still install an Acorn Superglide stair lift?

A:In many cases, yes. If the stairway has a sub-landing at the turn, it?s often possible to fit two straight stair lifts and save yourself $$$$ on the price of one curved-rail lift. Please contact us and we will go through all of the options available to you.

Q:Can I work on the equipment myself?

A:Anybody with a reasonable level of Do-It-Yourself competence and a logical and methodical approach to practical work will be comfortable working on the Acorn Superglide. You can access wiring diagrams and technical specifications - and order replacement parts, on-line. It goes without saying that technical assistance is just an e-mail or a phone call away.

Q:What is the Returns Policy

A:Stair lifts are custom made product. The track is cut to the length of your stairs and custom made based on which side of the staircase to mount the unit. As this is a custom made product, cut to your specifications, it is non returnable. Once the manufacturer has cut the track, your order becomes non-refundable. It is therefore essential that you follow the measurement guidelines, and double check before placing your order.

Personnel lifts, popularly known as stair lifts, are used to vertically elevate a single person from one story to another in single-floor or double-floor homes. Stair lifts are installed in smaller homes, where one cannot install elevators. They are very useful to people who have problems climbing stairs, yet want to live in their homes.

Personnel lifts are broadly classified in two types: indoor and outdoor. Stair lifts generally carry a load of up to 294 pounds. Heavy-duty lifts capable of carrying up to 350 pounds loads are also available.

Most stair lifts use a DC power source and are easy to install and maintain. They are also equipped with electronic and mechanical braking systems, which make them safe to use. Remote control or joystick control helps to guide movement of these lifts.

MachineRunner stocks personnel lifts of different types from the leading manufacturer Acorn. Most of these lifts come with a lifetime warranty.
